{2} The Girl Wrapped in a secret

Author’s POV

Even he didn’t understand what he was doing.

The most cold-hearted and untouchable man in the city was walking through the private entrance of his penthouse…

…carrying an unconscious girl in his arms.

His bodyguards froze.

No one spoke.

A few of them even exchanged stunned looks, wondering if they were hallucinating. Because the man who never showed emotion… the man who never cared about anyone’s pain or existence…

…was now holding a girl as if she were something fragile.

Something important.

Yet his expression remained the same—cold, unreadable, and dangerously calm.

The doors of the penthouse slid open.

Inside, the place looked less like a home and more like a palace. Massive glass windows stretched from floor to ceiling, revealing the glittering city skyline far below. Soft golden lights reflected off the polished marble floor, and the silence inside the vast space felt heavy.

Aditya walked straight to the large black sofa in the center of the living room.

Carefully—far more gently than anyone would have expected—he placed the girl down.

For a moment, he didn’t move.

He just stood there, staring at her.

A few strands of her hair had fallen across her face. Her breathing was slow and steady, and under the warm lights she looked strangely peaceful.

Too peaceful.

Aditya frowned slightly.

Why was he still standing here?

Why was he still looking at her?

He had never done something like this before.

Never.

The silence stretched until the penthouse door opened.

Vikram Gupta walked in.

The moment his eyes landed on the girl lying on the sofa… his brain nearly shut down.

Because a few minutes earlier he had seen something he thought was impossible.

His best friend—Aditya Malhotra—walking into the building with a girl in his arms.

For a moment Vikram just stared.

Then he rubbed his eyes.

“Either I’m dreaming… or you’ve finally lost your mind,” he muttered under his breath.

Aditya didn’t even look at him.

“Gupta.”

The cold voice instantly reminded Vikram who he was dealing with.

He straightened, though a faint smirk still lingered on his face.

“Yes, sir.”

The “sir” sounded formal, but both of them knew the truth.

Behind the title, Vikram wasn’t just his secretary.

He was the only person who had been standing beside Aditya since the beginning.

Aditya’s eyes were still fixed on the girl.

“Find out everything about her.”

Vikram raised an eyebrow.

“Everything?” he asked slowly.

Aditya finally looked at him.

That one glance was enough.

“Everything,” he repeated.

For a second Vikram studied his friend’s face carefully.

Something was different tonight.

Something… unusual.

But he didn’t question it.

Instead he nodded.

“Alright, boss.”

Then with a small sigh he added under his breath,

“First time you bring a girl home and you want her background check immediately. Romantic.”

Aditya’s gaze turned dangerously cold.

Vikram raised his hands slightly.

“Relax. I’m leaving.”

Without wasting another second, he walked out.

---

Silence filled the penthouse again.

Aditya ran a hand through his hair, irritation creeping into his mind.

Why had he brought her here?

He could have left her at a hospital.

He could have walked away.

But he hadn’t.

His eyes drifted back to her face.

Something about her presence disturbed his usual calm.

After a moment he sat down on the chair beside the sofa.

Time passed.

Then the door opened again.

Vikram walked in, holding a thin file.

“That was fast,” Aditya said without looking up.

“I’m efficient,” Vikram replied casually, placing the file in his hand.

Aditya opened it.

As his eyes moved across the page, something shifted in his expression.

For the first time that night, real surprise appeared on his face.

He read it again.

Slowly.

Then he leaned back.

“Interesting…”

The word slipped quietly from his lips.

Vikram crossed his arms.

“That’s it?” he asked. “You carry an unconscious girl into your house, and all you have to say is ‘interesting’?”

Aditya closed the file slowly.

His gaze moved back toward the girl.

According to the report, her name was Anvi Singh

On paper, she looked ordinary.

Successful.

Intelligent.

Respectable.

But something about the information didn’t add up.

Something was hidden.

Aditya’s eyes narrowed slightly.

He had learned a few things about her.

But he was certain of one thing.

He still didn’t know everything.

And somehow…

That made her even more interesting.
